Medicinal Formulae
As very little record remains of early Cherokee painting, I searched for a Cherokee voice through the rich imagery of medicinal formulae. There are hundreds of medicinal formulae unique to our tribe, with references to the animals with which we have a genuine relationship, such as crawdads or flycatchers. Contary to New Age expectations, these incantations are all highly practical, dealing with such matters as finding lost livestock or winning a court case.
