Inside Contact of the Month

130 Sutter is always a pleasant stop, thanks to Ed Mendiola, who holds down the security desk and delivers packages within the building. Ed has two sons here in town, two daughters in Denmark, and much family in the Phillipines. When we presented him our handsome certificate, he reciprocated with a fresh peach – proof that he was a good choice for the award!

Bike Messenger's Prayer

Our mother who art in the cosmos
Goddess of bike messengers by thy name
Thy package come
Thy tages be done
In SOMA as in the financial district.
Give us this day our daily hotshots
And forgive us our near missess
As we forgive those who nearly miss us
Lead us not into opening car doors
But deliver us over slippery manhole covers
For ours is the sunshine
And the parties
And the affection of our dispatchers
Forever and ever.
Yippee.

AMCS Comes to Town

The Association of Mesenger and Courier Services (pronounced “Am-sis”) hits town for its hard-driving convention – featuring keynote speaker Quentin Kopp – November 2nd and 3rd. AMCS is a national organization, thought most of the approximately 45 affilicates who will be represented are from southern California, according to Now [Courier] Manager Jack Stevens. He and Pro-boss Joel Ritch will host the event at the Wharf Holiday Inn.

We hope the managers sweat out some solutions to the problems we face in the industry. And we hope they enjoy their weekend in our city.

Perhaps Mercury Rising should apply for a press credential….
