Harjos

The Harjos, acrylic on canvas, 30"x24"

Barbara and Benjamin Harjo are two of my most important mentors and they are practically family. I've known Ben since I was six years old. He is fullblood and both of his parents' last names were Harjo, which means "Crazy" in Muscogee. Shawnee and Seminole beadwork patterns represent his heritage, while the "Chief's Daughter" basketry design represents Barbara's Cherokee heritage.
