The End of Sequoyah Fuels,
Gore, Oklahoma,
gouache, watercolor, and iron oxide on paper, 10.5"x13.5"
Sequoyah Fuels Corporation,
first owned by Kerr-McGee and later General Atomics, processed uranium
hexafluoride from 1973 to 1993. Operating in a dangerous manner,
having been the site of several accidents, and polluting two major
rivers, Sequoyah Fuels was finally closed thanks to efforts by local
Cherokee citizens and the Cherokee Nation.
